A workshop to empower bilingual writers to let two languages coexist in their narratives authentically, without guilt or the pressure to translate unless desired. Using real examples from my self-published poetry collection Speak English, You’re in America, we’ll explore how Spanglish can add depth and authenticity to storytelling. Participants will analyze excerpts, engage in writing prompts, and celebrate the creativity of embracing both languages fully.
About the Facilitator: Carolina Abreu, a Dominican writer now based in New York, embarked on her literary journey in 2002 upon relocating to the United States. Her creative expressions have graced HBO's The Inspiration Room and found homes in various publications, including LNNY Blog, HPalabritas, Dominican Writers Association, and The Ice Colony. Passionate about fostering vulnerability, self-love, liberation, and kindness, Carolina uses her work to inspire authenticity and connect with ancestral roots.
