Details:
A generative poetry writing workshop open to writers of all genres on how to write about the body and what it has been through. Using poems from Black cancer survivor Walela Nehanda's book, Blessing the Blood, participants will discuss and write pieces based on Nehanda's fiery, honest poetry about the incredible and terrifying things our bodies experience, and the stories we must tell because we survived them.
About the facilitator: Ariana Brown is a queer Black Mexican American poet based in Houston, TX and the author of We Are Owed. (Grieveland, 2021) and Sana Sana (Game Over Books, 2020). She holds a B.A. in African Diaspora Studies and Mexican American Studies, an M.F.A. in Poetry, and an M.S. in Library Science.
