Three folks from Worldbuilding Magazine delves deeply into how to build and communicate your world to the audience. Each of the six 90-minute sessions will combine short lectures, panel discussions, prompts or exercises, and Q&A. We will also invite students to share their work for feedback and critique. Planned topics include inspiration, scope & scale, consistency & immersion, collaboration & feedback, context, format, tropes, process, tools, and research. We’ll also discuss typical problems and issues people run into when worldbuilding and provide tactics to handle them.

Max 30 students. $10 per session/$60 total; but if this would cause you a financial hardship please let us know. Though the sessions will be recorded we highly recommend attending so as to maximize the information being shared.

 Week by Week 

  1. February 28th-Build a World: core concepts in how to build a world (Getting started, Scope & Scale, Collaboration & Feedback, Process & Tools)
  2. March 7th-Deep Delve into Worldbuilding: More advanced topics in creating a world (research, genre, consistency & verisimilitude)
  3. March 14th-Troubleshooting Worldbuilding: tackling common problems in worldbuilding as well as specific problems that participants are having
  4. March 21st-Communicating your Setting: core concepts in how to communicate your world to others in various media and formats (4 worlds theory, Point of View, etc.)
  5. March 28th-Deep Delve into Writing Settings: More advanced topics in communicating your world (introductions, context clues, games, scripts, and other media)
  6. April 4th-Troubleshooting Settings: tackling common problems in communicating a setting as well as specific problems that participants are having (infodumps, obscurity, geographic confusion, naming, etc.)
