You were raised in a culture that knew how to celebrate, how to cook for a hundred people, how to dance through pain and how to never, ever talk about it. In Caribbean households, silence wasn't just a habit. It was a survival strategy passed down for generations. If its something we learned to do well ( and at a yong age ) was you never, EVER, air your business. The rules were simple, don't burden others, don't be too much, and don’t speak up about anything, whatsoever. And so you learned to fold yourself small. To smile at the family party while carrying things no one ever asked you about. To be fuerte because falling apart wasn't an option.
