The Washington Heights Memoir Project aims to provide a platform to immortalize the narratives of a community that is slowly losing its longstanding Dominican inhabitants due to gentrification.

This Workshop series will include current and past residents of Washington Heights neighborhoods including youth with similar artistic pursuits in order to create an archive of our experiences living and or working in Washingtong Heights.
Requirements:
- Particpants will be required to have resided in the neighborhood at least 2 years in order to contribute.
- Participants will write their stories, polish their work & see it through the publishing stage in the form of an anthology.
- Participants MUST attend at least 5 workshops in order to polish their work and be included in the anthology.
Workshop Facilitator:
Beto Cruz- Writer – Producer. Fan, admirer, and promoter of all artistic expressions. Mr. Cruz began writing, producing and conducting entertainment events while in high school. In 2000, he wrote the winning song for first national competition of songs about HIV/AIDS in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Cruz wrote, directed, and acted in the play that took place with his winning song in the most important scenarios of his country. In 2007 he created his own production company for Radio, TV, and events in Puerto Plata, DR. “EnAmorArte” radio show was one of his most important productions at that time. Mr. Cruz developed his story-telling passion and shared his writings on his Facebook and Instagram pages. He made the cross over to filmmaking on 2017 with La EntreViú, his first cowriting and producing job for the big screen. La EntreViú has been selected for 14 film festivals, and has received several awards, including best screen play for Femujer Film festival 2019. Mr. Cruz is currently developing a documentary, and 2 short films premiering this the second half of 2019, and writing his first book to be published in the first half of 2020.
