Write to Change the World centers writers as change agents poised to use their skills to enact social change. This is a generative workshop for writers of all levels. Write to Change The World Part Three will arm writers to tackle toxic masculinity with samples of Angie Curz, James Baldwin, and John Murillo.
About the Facilitator: Cleyvis Natera was born in the Dominican Republic in 1977. She immigrated to the US with her mother and siblings in 1988. Cleyvis is Co-Founder of The Toni Morrison Festival. She grew up in Harlem, New York City, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Skidmore College and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Fiction from NYU.
Cleyvis is a 2019-2020 Pen America Writing for Justice Fellow and was the 2019 Carol Houck Smith Returning Contributor Award winner in Fiction at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. She has also received writing fellowships/scholarships from The Juniper Institute at UMass Amherst, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (in VA and France), and VONA (Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation). Cleyvis was a finalist for a Fulbright Creative Writing Award to the Dominican Republic, where she ended the competition as an "Alternate."
Cleyvis is part of a long tradition of writers who make a living in insurance. She is currently hard at work on her first novel, Neruda on the Park. She lives in Montclair, NJ with her husband and two young children.
