From Exile to Home: Reading Julia Alvarez is a guided DWA Book Club reading series dedicated to reading the work of Julia Alvarez slowly, thoughtfully, and in community.

BOOK ONE: In the Time of the Butterflies, grounding our reading in questions of political violence, memory, resistance, and womanhood. From there, participants will move across nine books—spanning novels, essays, poetry, and children’s literature—reading Alvarez’s work in conversation across time, genre, history, and lived experience.
